Day 005 of 147 of Learning Watercolor: Patterns

I hoarded a lot of paints and decided to open and swatch the sennelier set today.

It came with a metal case

Like Holbein, the Sennelier pans were easy to wet.

Here are the swatches:

Yes I do have chicken scratch handwriting

In the set, would you have guessed the top row 4th-8th color without swatching?

I certainly wouldn’t.

After swatching, tried to paint a tablecloth.

It’s supposed to be yellow and red, but I forgot about starting from lighter colors to dark.

Not to mention, I think the French Vermillion is orange-red leaning on orange.

I mixed the leftover puddle of French Vermillion with a bit of yellow.

Welp, the purple bled into the undried orange.

2nd round.

Saved some space for rings as I applied the layer of blue, but each stroke dried too fast before I could apply the next, so the wash of blue ending up being uneven.

Tried again by wetting the paper first, then applying the paint and letting it spread.

The transparency of the blue really shows.

Next I added the rings, but it’s really hard to have even lines without outlines to follow. Need more practice for sure.

I have no words.
