Day 002 of 147 of Learning Watercolor: Mixing Colors

I swear I will chop my hands off if I buy anymore paints.

Anyways, I practiced mixing colors.

In computer science, colors are combos of RGB (red, green, blue).

In watercolor, the primary colors red, yellow, and blue could be used to mix many more colors.

I think while the goal was to mix colors, this session was more of a water control practice.

See how the paint divides when the paint dries too fast/not enough water^?

Dried – red + yellow = orange

Yellow + Blue should make green, but I don’t think it’s mixing so well above.

Now as I am reviewing these photos, it seems in the left photo the intense yellow pigment run into the blue; in the 2nd photo the reverse happens.

Now I am questioning whether it’s the pigment intensity that caused it or the variable of water.

I could have used a clean wet brush to blend the middle for a smoother effect, but it’s nice to see how and where the pigment flows too.

I’ll spare this post of the rest of my practice mixes and call it a day.

Time clocked in today: 1.5 hrs.
